Gift Of Mobility Giveaway 2017 a Success!
Another year is coming to a close, which can only mean one thing: another year of celebrating our Gift of Mobility event!
Mobility Equipment Recyclers Of New England has once again given the Gift Of Mobility to local individuals in dire need of medical equipment.
Earlier this year, we collected nominations for the chance to win a FREE device from New England's largest supplier of secondhand durable medical equipment.
But that's not all. In conjunction with the Gift Of Mobility giveaway, we also hosted a customer appreciation event and holiday party at our store in North Kingstown.
When: Saturday December 16, 2017 starting at 12pm Where: Mobility Equipment Recyclers Of New England @ 6802 Post Road in North Kingstown, RI 02852
Overview and Recap of our Gift of Mobility for 2017
North Kingstown, RI - Mobility Equipment Recyclers of New England held their 4th annual Gift Of Mobility event on Saturday, December 16th at their storefront on Post Road.
Approximately 50 attendees were on hand for the event, including contest participants seeking increased independence, their families and community members. Event-goers traveled as far away from Boston to attend.
Recipients were selected at random to take home the medical device of their choosing. Among the items given away were a Jazzy and Hoveround power wheelchair, a Pride Go-Go scooter, a walker, shower chair and transport wheelchairs -- all in the name of expanded mobility.
Michael Leavitt, the recipient of a refurbished mobility scooter, didn't know what to expect when he arrived. But he's sure glad he came.
"This scooter is going to help me with walking and doing things that I used to do that I can't do anymore because of my [limited] mobility. It's going to get me shopping with the wife again. I'll be able to move around with the baby now because I can't carry her and walk. This scooter will help me hold her, and I think [the baby] will like it more than I will!"
Owner John Perrotti took some time after the show to reflect on how far the Gift Of Mobility has come.
"It's simply amazing," Perrotti said after the event. "It's grown exponentially since our humble beginnings. This is the first year we've held the giveaway ceremony at our store and the turnout was amazing. The store was packed with people. And it puts a big smile on all of our faces to see people receive medical equipment that they otherwise wouldn't be able to afford."
Special guest Congressman Jim Langevin was also on hand to take in the festivities. Lately, West Warwick resident Anne Lussier-Brooks has been feeling trapped inside of her own home. On Saturday, she was the recipient of a Hoveround power wheelchair after her sister decided to sign her up for the giveaway.
"It will definitely allow me to move around a lot more freely than what I am right now. I'm kind of trapped in my house. I think it will give me a little more independence than what I've been experiencing, and really get me on the road to just be independent without having to call and ask [for help]. That's huge for me."
