Checking in with Kathi: How a New Stairlift Made the Road to Recovery a Smoother Ride
Mar 09, 2023
A Gift of Mobility recipient from 2022, Kathi received a new stairlift to help her get up and down the stairs. In addition to making it easier to get around her home, the stairlift we donated has helped make her road to recovery a much smoother ride.
Getting a stairlift had been on the mind of East Greenwich resident Kathi for quite a while. In recent years she'd noticed that going up and down her stairs didn't come nearly as easy to her as it used to, and once she learned that she would need a total knee replacement she knew that she would need some extra help to recover from surgery.
"I knew I needed it then," said Kathi.
Kathi and her husband, Mike, reached out to us not long after. Upon learning of Kathi's situation, we decided to donate and install a stairlift in their home in order to help make Kathi's recovery as smooth as possible. It has made quite the difference.
"When I had the surgery in the beginning, this [stairlift] was a lifesaver for me, to be able to come downstairs and be part of the family," Kathi told us. Even now, after completing her recovery process, Kathi makes use of the stairlift regularly, giving it a ringing endorsement. "It's a great invention, let me tell you," she says. "It's wonderful."
We started the Gift of Mobility back in 2014 in order to help those who have mobility needs but lack the means to pay for these life-altering devices. Our goal is to help people like Kathi when mobility becomes an obstacle to their quality of life. We're proud to have been there for each and every one of our Gift of Mobility recipients, and always remain ready for the next opportunity to bring mobility to a Rhode Islander in need!
We'd like to give our thanks to the Kathi and Mike for welcoming us with open arms, and to everyone throughout our 10 incredible years in business for helping make the Gift of Mobility possible!
